Dear Toes,

I thought you were really tan since I wear sandals all day everyday and you’re probably the part of my body that gets the most sun. Turns out I just haven’t been scrubbing you hard enough in the shower (maybe because I’m trying to get out of there as quickly as possible. Brr!). Anyway, I found out yesterday you’re not tan, you’re just dirty. REALLY dirty.

    I remember in Mali that the ground dirt was so red that there was no way to mistake dirt from tan, but it was clay-like and a devil to get out!
