So... mommy dogs in the wild to make pups be quiet actually use their mouths to grip gently around the puppy mouth when it barks and growl softly. You can do this with your hand, and if you don't feel like growling, say 'Shh'. Then praise him when he's quiet. It worked for Maddie - maybe it'll work for you & Sawyer. Ignoring actually sometimes helps, too, but is hard.
